Dr. Muthu Jothi is a highly accomplished Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon with over 30 years of experience, renowned for his expertise in performing intricate heart surgeries. Having practiced at esteemed institutions such as Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and Royal Brompton Hospital, he has
Cardiac Pacemaker Implant : A small device implanted in the chest to regulate the heart's rhythm if it beats too slowly or irregularly. The pacemaker sends electrical signals to the heart to maintain a healthy rhythm and improve blood flow.
Heart Transplant : A life-saving surgery that replaces a failing heart with a healthy donor heart. This is an option for people with severe heart failure when other treatments are no longer effective.
Heart Surgery : A broad term encompassing various surgical procedures on the heart and surrounding structures. This can include repairs of heart valves, removal of diseased tissue, and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
Cardiac Catheterization : A minimally invasive procedure that uses a thin tube inserted through a blood vessel to reach the heart. This allows doctors to diagnose heart problems, like blockages in arteries, and sometimes perform certain treatments.
Open-Heart Surgery : A major surgical procedure where the chest is opened to access the heart directly. This allows surgeons to perform complex repairs or procedures not possible with minimally invasive techniques.
Patent Ductus Artriosus (PDA) Device Closure : Corrects a birth defect where a fetal connection between the aorta and pulmonary artery remains open after birth. This can be done with a catheter-based procedure using a device to close the opening.
Peripheral Angioplasty : Opens narrowed arteries in the legs or arms to improve blood flow and prevent tissue damage or amputation. This is often done using a balloon catheter inserted through the artery to widen the blockage.
Pacemaker Implantation (alternative wording for Cardiac Pacemaker Implant) : Same as Cardiac Pacemaker Implant (see above). Refers to surgically inserting a pacemaker device to regulate heart rhythm.
Balloon Mitral Valvuloplasty : A minimally invasive procedure that uses a balloon catheter to open a narrowed mitral valve in the heart. This improves blood flow through the valve and reduces pressure on the heart.
Coronary Angioplasty / Bypass Surgery : Both procedures address coronary artery disease (blocked arteries). Angioplasty uses a balloon catheter to open blockages, while bypass surgery creates a new route for blood flow around the blockage using healthy blood vessels from elsewhere in the body.
