With over 23 years of experience, Dr. Rayaz Ahmed is a distinguished Hematologist and Medical Oncologist at Max Hospital, Gurugram. Specializing in Stem Cell Transplants, Bone Marrow Transplants, and various Hematological disorders, he is renowned for his expertise in treating conditions like
Stem Cell Transplantation : A stem cell transplant is a procedure to replace damaged or diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells. Stem cells are immature cells that have the potential to develop into many different types of cells. In a stem cell transplant, stem cells are collected from a donor or from the patient themselves (autologous transplant). The stem cells are then infused into the patient's bloodstream, where they travel to the bone marrow and begin to produce new, healthy blood cells.
Chemotherapy : Chemotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses drugs to kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy drugs work by damaging the DNA of cancer cells, which prevents them from growing and dividing. Chemotherapy can be given by mouth, injection, or intravenously (through a vein).
Leukemia : Leukemia is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. It starts in the white blood cells, which are part of the body's immune system. White blood cells help the body fight infection. In leukemia, the white blood cells become abnormal and grow out of control. This can crowd out healthy blood cells, which can lead to infections, anemia, and easy bleeding.
Aplastic anemia : Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when the body stops making enough new blood cells. This can lead to infections, anemia, and easy bleeding. The cause of aplastic anemia is often unknown, but it can be caused by certain medications, radiation therapy, or autoimmune diseases.
Lymphoma : Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's immune system. The lymphatic system helps fight infection by transporting white blood cells throughout the body. Lymphoma can start in any part of the lymphatic system, including the lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, and bone marrow. There are two main types of lymphoma: Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Multiple myeloma : Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells, which are a type of white blood cell. Plasma cells are found in the bone marrow and make antibodies, which help the body fight infection. In multiple myeloma, the plasma cells become abnormal and grow out of control. This can damage the bones and lead to kidney problems, anemia, and a weakened immune system.
Anemia Treatment : Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body. Symptoms of anemia can include fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, pale skin, and a rapid heartbeat. Treatment for anemia depends on the cause of the condition. In some cases, treatment may involve taking iron supplements, vitamin B12 supplements, or erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone that helps the body produce red blood cells. In other cases, a blood transfusion may be necessary.
Thrombocytopenia : Thrombocytopenia is a condition in which the body does not have enough platelets. Platelets are tiny cells in the blood that help form clots and stop bleeding. Symptoms of thrombocytopenia can include easy bruising, excessive bleeding from cuts or injuries, and bleeding in the gums, nose, or intestines. Treatment for thrombocytopenia depends on the cause of the condition. In some cases, treatment may involve taking medications to increase platelet production. In other cases, a blood transfusion may be necessary.
